And why might they want to build a hyper-converged infrastructure? Gil Shneorson (@GilShneorson), VP and GM for VxRail at EMC, spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu) and Keith Townsend (@CTOAdvisor), host and guest host of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during VMworld US 2016. Hyper-convergence, designed ‘in context’ “Customers basically want to shift the responsibility of building the complete infrastructure stack from themselves to somebody that can give them the service level that’s required,” said Shneorson. As more customers are shifting toward an “integrative system vs. a recipe methodology,” hyper-converged infrastructure systems will be more and more in demand. “Hardware and software need to be designed in context,” said Shneorson. Why a hyper-converged system? There are three reasons a customer might want to hyper-converge, according to Shneorson: “They want to start really small, they want to grow in very small increments and they never want to migrate again.” There are also many advantages, like managing one’s entire environment from that VMware team. “I think customers are seeing those advantages very clearly,” he said.
