The average person in America has about 3 devices that are connecting them to the world through the Internet. And with the
proliferation of use, things on the back end are changing.
From VMworld 2015, John Furrier, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down with Jim McHugh, VP of product and solutions marketing for Unified Computing Systems at Cisco Systems, Inc., to talk about how systems are integrating and the world of powering devices is becoming more unified.
Compute, network and storage
The time of compartmentalized development is over. Today, all of the components of connectivity are integrated. As McHugh said, “I think what people are really actually getting to is that solutions now aren’t just in the data center. I’m a data center guy, but it is edge, to data center, to cloud and more and more a solution or an application doesn’t just live in one of those locations … we have to design infrastructure to support all these things going forward.”
Heading Forward
While these new developments are exciting, McHugh pointed out that we are still riding this train, and a lot more change will be seen. “We think we’re there, we think we’re at this place where it’s changed the world now, but we haven’t even seen anything yet. It’s just coming so fast and furious,” he said.
McHugh talked about applications, business outcomes and integrating the entire tech sphere in his interview with theCUBE. Don’t miss his take on the bimodal world where business want to cut costs and provide robust applications.
