Scott D. Lowe, cofounder of ActualTech Media, LLC, greeted Stu Miniman, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, with a copy of his new book, The Gorilla Guide to Hyperconverged Infrastructure Implementation Strategies, published by ActualTech Media. The guide marks the first in a series of instructional books from the content development company.
Where to start with hyperconverged
Lowe wrote the book in part because the topic of hyperconverged draws so many mixed opinions in the industry. “People just don’t know where to start,” he said. “They think hyperconverged is a return to the past because we’re back to detached storage, but others see it for what it is, which is a leap forward in the datacenter market. There are a lot of conversations out there about what hyperconverged really means.”
Although many companies are looking into hyperconverged infrastructure, Lowe noted that it currently isn’t the best fit for everyone. “Anything with massive I/O needs would not be a good fit,” he said. “It would have trouble with those monster applications because of the way the architecture is built today. But over time, that likely won’t be the case.”
Beyond hyperconverged
David M. Davis, cofounder of ActualTech Media, also joined in on theCUBE interview. Beyond hyperconverged, Davis said he’s interested in network virtualization and software-defined networking.
Lowe wants to study software-defined data centers, data protection and security, which are, understandably, “getting a lot more attention these days.”
