VC Jerry Chen reveals the ‘revolution of tech trends’ | #VMworld
by Darcie Nolan | Oct 12, 2015
Data center innovation has seen many trends recently. But Jerry Chen, partner of Greylock Partners, was the first to see the container trend. Chen sat down with John Furrier, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during VMworld 2015, to discuss tech trends.
The tipping point
According to Chen, “Like all technology trends, it takes a while to create an impact. But when it tips, it changes the industry.”
The most exciting trends are changing the way people work and improving each component of development — from security to app deployment, he added. Cloud-native businesses are changing everything as a new generation of developers are born in the cloud and don’t have a reference point for working without the cloud.
According to Chen, building new apps with new tools is the best way to find success, but moving into the cloud can cause problems. There is a whole category of applications that shouldn’t move into the cloud at all, as well as some that should explore the options of hybrid cloud technologies — another aspect of tech evolution that is highly featured in venture capitalist portfolios, Chen explained.
