Intro | VMworld 2014
Intro, VMworld 2014 with John Furrier, Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman @theCUBE #vmworld2014 Server virtualization stalwart VMware Inc. is following up the flurry of product announcements at its recent annual customer conference in San Francisco with the release of strategic enhancements for a number of existing solutions that bridge vital functionality gaps in its portfolio. The company also pulled the curtains back on a brand new tool aimed at geographically distributed organizations. The biggest product update since VMworld 2014 brings with it a new iteration of the NSX virtualization platform that introduces increased security and improved resource utilization. Version 6.1 offers heightened control and visibility into the different layers of the micro-segmentation security model it implements, and uses multiple paths to route traffic from end-points to increase available bandwidth. To top it off, NSX 6.1 plugs into the newest version of the Automation Center provisioning portal included in VMware’s vCloud Suite of service delivery components, which is also receiving a major update in the form of improved recovery management. Users of the bundle can take advantage of the integration with NSX to automatically extend security policies to the network and have applications isolated from one another by default. The two upgrades are rolling out in conjunction with a revamped version of the backup and recovery tool built into VMware’s flagship vSphere virtualization platform that sports improved replication capabilities and the ability to tailor proxy settings, an extra bit of customization that can help admins further optimize their environments. The updates are joined by a new solution called vSphere Remote Office Branch Office that VMware says provides better visibility into geographically distributed environments to make it easier for users to track configuration inconsistencies in host servers and maintain regulatory compliance. Rounding out the launch are two of the products introduced at VMworld 2014: the vRealize Suite, an offering that unifies the company’s management and automation products under a single license, and the Operations Insight plugin for Automation Center.
