John Troyer on Social Media, Communities | VMworld 2010
VMware communities lead John Troyer shares his thoughts with SiliconAngle's John Furrier on day four of VMworld 2010. The pair discuss the new innovative way VMWorld has been able to draw vendors and attendees in spite of mainstream media news coverage. Troyer says himself that he is a "social media guy" and noticed throughout the conference the presence of coverage with the use of social media such a Facebook and Twitter. John Furrier asks for an insiders look at what went on in terms of the behind the scenes aspects of VMWorld such as parties, along with the social media trending that went on. Troyer, who works with the guys who work in the datacenter says "they are the hands on practitioners", who, for the most part, in previous years have neglected to attend the sessions. As opposed to the 2010 conference where the buzz surrounding VMWare, the lab, and the vendors who attended. In Troyer's words, "everyone is so very excited, everything went so well". The one thing John Troyer seems to keep emphasizing throughout the interview, is that putting together a conference as big, exciting and innovative as VMWorld, is a lot of work, but the payoff is well worth it.
