HP's Dave Roberson and Paul Perez | VMworld 2010
John Furrier and Wikibon's Dave Vellante, host Dave Roberson and Paul Perez of Hewlett Packard, at SiliconAngle's live coverage from inside the Cube at VM World 2010. Following a session with two key executor's from Storage is Sexy, John Furrier jumps right into the press conference, immediately bringing to the panel the topic of convergence and storage virtualization. Vellante poses a question to the two HP Representative's regarding the transformation of Hewlett Packard's storage business, asking for their high-level overview and what is new at HP Storageworks. Dave Roberson mentions the three key areas that HP has been focusing on in terms of what's new, saying, "Probably the most exciting is our Store Once Technology that's been developed with HP layouts. It's an end-to-end Data D duplication solution. The first instance we brought out is a disc to disc backup device. (We are) very excited about the price performance, very excited about the end-to-end capability of that software." Roberson goes on to talk about the second key area in storage and virtualization that HP has been focusing on, continuing, "We've also been focused on our P4000 Product Line which is our I-SCSI Scale Out Architecture, we reintroduced the 4800 in June, which is a virtual machine, essentially for the virtual desktop reconfigured with a blade infrastructure ready to provide an end-to-end solution for our customers there." According to Dave Roberson, the third key focus of HP at the time of this press conference was "our, (Hewlett Packard's) X9000 Product Line, which is our single namespace scale out file based storage, (we are) very excited about the acceptance of that in the marketplace" He goes on to elaborate on HP's June aquisition and the effect it had on the aforementioned technologies, particularly the 4800, saying, "it is a virtual machine designed for scaling out a virtual desktop. That was all developed after the acquisition, so we got the core technology through the acquisition to continue to build on it afterwards."
