Ramping up data visibility, security in the hybrid enterprise
Today’s modern hybrid enterprise operates with dynamic needs at scale, from core to edge to cloud. And for operations within software-defined environments, visibility and fast data analytics remain key.
ExtraHop Networks Inc. is answering the call for visibility with real-time information technology analytics, according to Jesse Rothstein (pictured), co-founder and chief technology officer of ExtraHop Networks. “The ability to get visibility across a wide range of environments really pervasively in the hybrid enterprise is, I think, a big value that we offer,” he said. “I think it’s extremely important that [organizations] have the same level of visibility that they’re accustomed to in their on-premise environment with their traditional workloads, as well as in these sort of borne-in-the-cloud workloads.”
Rothstein spoke with Lisa Martin (@LuccaZara), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, and guest host Justin Warren (@jpwarren), during the VMworld conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed the current state of the software industry and recent cybersecurity efforts. (* Disclosure below.)
Cybersecurity and healthcare
No matter the industry, having systems in place to detect security breaches, as well as the tools necessary to investigate the breach alerts rapidly, is extremely important, according to Rothstein.
“The ability to actually surface high-quality anomalies and threats and streamline or even automate the workflows for investigation is super important,” he said. Without a way to investigate the anomalies quickly, cybersecurity teams are inundated with constant alerts, which in some industries could be life-threatening.
Since ExtraHop works with many healthcare providers and hospital chains, technology with timely access to medical data and records is crucial. “If the logins are slow or if there’s an inability to access these records, it can be devastating,” Rothstein explained.
Therefore, ExtraHop relies on micro-segmentation, which allows it to configure policies so if a ransomware infection occurs it can be easily quarantined and shut down. Even with multiple layers of protection, ransomware still manages to get through, according to Rothstein, so having a last line of defense is critical.
