HPE’s Synergy platform promises easier path for private clouds
Talk to any chief information officer and phrases like “single-click deployment,” “easier implementation” and “lower costs” will generally get their attention. That’s why the recent news from Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. about a composable platform that combines VMware Inc.’s Cloud Foundation with its Synergy product sounds like music to the ears of enterprise technology managers seeking to build a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Easier app deployments on private clouds? What’s not to like about that? “It’s really not about technology. It’s about how do people consistently do these deployments,” said Mike Flaum (pictured), senior product manager at Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Flaum stopped by the set of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, and spoke with host Lisa Martin (@LisaDaliMartin) and guest host Keith Townsend (@CTOAdvisor) during the VMworld conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed how the Synergy platform helps enterprise customers and offers benefits for information technology administrators. (* Disclosure below.)
Automation software saves time
HPE Synergy combines resources such as storage and networking into a pool that can be accessed by applications for particular needs. VMware Cloud Foundation now sits on top of the Synergy platform and allows the install of VMware’s vSphere, vSAN and NSX virtualization products. HPE’s software automates and configures these resources, saving time in infrastructure management.
“We’re totally aligned with VMware by making it easier for customer implementations. Our customers are really asking for this,” Flaum said.
The composable platform is designed to eliminate problems that come with managing an infrastructure that might have three different pieces of hardware from three different vendors. “The benefit is to put it under one system, under Synergy, that puts it all together,” Flaum explained. “Now you have it all converged on one system that’s purpose-built for this.”
The goal is to give IT administrators more options in how they choose to manage virtualized environments. The combined HPE Synergy and VMware Cloud Foundation platform is also integrated with HPE’s OneView for task automation and streamlining of processes.
“I’m able to leverage that local storage, which compresses it down into one hardware platform. That’s where the customers really get the added benefit,” Flaum concluded.
