Nitin Narkhede, the general manager of Wipro's Emerging Technologies and Innovation group, appeared on theCUBE with Wikibon chief analyst Dave Vellante at the recently concluded Splunk.conf 2013 summit to share his take on the technology trends that are reshaping corporate IT.
Starting with a little background on his company, Narkhede highlights that Wipro is a global system integrator with more than 145,000 employees and 900 enterprise-scale customers worldwide. His unit is responsible for identifying emerging technologies that can help the company enhance its services lineup and break into new industries.
For the last four years, Wipro has been working to grow its share of the enterprise cloud services market. The executive says that his firm is now increasingly focusing on other verticals, notably the Internet of Everything and mobility. Touchscreens and other technologies that drive user experience in the mobile arena are a priority for Wipro, he says.
Over in the Big Data space, the company is helping customers apply analytics to the areas where they can realize the best return on investment. Narkhede stresses that being able to justify and prioritize Big Data initiatives is imperative for companies that are held accountable to the shareholders for their investment decisions. With this mind, Wipro advises customers to start out small and identify specific use cases in which they can utilize analytics to drive tangible business value. Applications can range from boosting customer engagement to identifying untapped revenue streams.
Elaborating on client use cases, Narkhede says that most organizations choose to deploy off-the-shelf solutions such as Splunk to address their Big Data needs. The machine data analytics platform can be used to monitor transactions and other important metrics that would otherwise remain buried in logs.
