Splunk takes the lead in the security industry, says Gartner | #splunkconf
by Heather Johnson | Sep 25, 2015
IT research and advisory company Gartner, Inc. ranked Splunk Enterprise and Splunk App for Enterprise Security as leaders in its recent Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM).
Haiyan Song, SVP of security markets for Splunk, Inc., and Monzy Merza, Splunk’s chief security evangelist, joined John Furrier, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to talk about the company’s recent success in the Enterprise segment.
Solutions-centric approach
So what’s its secret to security success? Song said that having people Merza doesn’t hurt. Also, “We’ve been taking a very solutions-centric approach,” she said. “Having a very strong machine data platform is a strong foundation. It got us into this business. We also have a relentless focus on providing solutions. Splunk Enterprise went through four releases in the last 18 months.”
Merza said that many security issues he observes stem from credentialed individuals. “Credential usage and credential misuse and abuse is at the core of many different activities, whether it’s in financial services, retailers or online banking,” he explained. “The challenge is the ability to connect the dots and for the analyst to really exercise his intuition. A lot of customers either don’t know what to do and want Splunk to help them understand what that is or know exactly what to do but their current product or technologies don’t enable them to exercise their creativity. By bringing in machine learning and data science, we can level the game for the folks that need our assistance and want us to prescribe a solution.”
