Good for engineers, developers: SAP Hana cloud offering now on AWS
While Amazon Web Services Inc. and SAP SE have been working together for some time, such as sitting side-by-side to perform validations, it was an informal relationship. This week, both companies took their partnership to a more formal level, announcing a new SAP Hana Enterprise Cloud Managed Public offering on AWS.
This relationship is beneficial for both companies, according to Sanjay Kulkarni, global head of architecture and advisory, Hana Enterprise Cloud, at SAP SE. “Not just from a go-to-market perspective, but more importantly, from an engineering and development perspective,” he said, adding that such developments were positive, representing capabilities that customers of both companies had been asking for.
Kulkarni called in to talk with John Furrier (@furrier) (pictured), co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio. The interview aired live from SiliconANGLE’s Palo Alto, California, studio. In addition to the details around the new offering, they also discussed Hasso Plattner and his inspirational Day 3 keynote address, as well as news from the SAP Sapphire Now event in Orlando, Florida. Running HANA on AWS
With this new Managed Public offering, Kulkarni explained that SAP will stand up environments for enterprises in AWS, and manage them end-to-end. That includes the entire suite of services required to manage a Hana-based system.
Because SAP is the native vendor of Hana, it has a very specific point of view on what goes into a best-run Hana application, and it will apply those capabilities in the environment, Kulkarni explained.
Regarding Plattner’s keynote address during the event, it was, “One of the most brilliant and inspiring keynotes that I have heard personally,” Kulkarni stated.
He said that what stood out to him, in particular, was Plattner discussing the amount of time and effort that SAP puts into building user interfaces. The point was that SAP should be spending far more time building out those user interfaces, making them much more intuitive and simple for users, rather than adding unnecessary complexity, Kulkarni said.
