Ofer Bengal, Garantia Data, at O'Reilly Velocity Conference 2013, with John Furrier and Jeff Frick
Ofer Bengal, CEO Garantia Data, introduced the company's in-memory NoSQL database product, Redis Cloud, and discussed its benefits with theCUBE host John Furrier, live at the O'Reilly Velocity conference.
Redis Cloud was very fast and provided great performance, Bengal said, adding that Velocity is the right place to showcase their offering, because "this is all about performance."
Asked why the solution was so popular, he said that it "has many attractive data types and commands, useful for any type of application, that is why developers love it."
"The basic idea is to provide developers with all they need" in relation to detabase needs, without the hassle of it, Bengal explained. With Redis Cloud "developers can do anything, send your data and forget about it. we take care of scalability, availability, performance."
Exploring the features, he said that "with a click you can replicate your data set in the same data center." In case of failure, "we switch to your replica instantly." To provide and even better high-availability solution, Redis introduced a feature that allows a one click replica to be created in a different data center, just in case the initial data center fails completely.
Redis Cloud allows you to roll a data set from bytes to gigabytes fully automatically, "while supporting all data types and commands", Bengal added. To developers who need real-tome, persistence, and flexibility, Redis caters by being "fastest data store available today." Comparing his product to SAP HANA, he stated that Redis was ten times faster handling "hundreds of thousands of transactions with sub millisecond latency."
The main benefits of Redis, Bengal said, were use cases. The solution is perfect when there is a need for job management, Twitter-like functionality -- as it has a built-in clone, fast analytics, caching, page and post ranks, all these are great use cases for it.
Asked what Garantia was showing at Velocity, Bengal said they came to demonstrate Redis' service, its great performance, and high-availability.
