Asia Pacific ‘going straight to the cloud’ | #oow15
by Amber Johnson | Oct 27, 2015
In the emerging economies in Asia, analysts aren’t going to start with black and white TV. They are going to start with color TV. Along the same lines, Asia is “going straight to the cloud,” explained Sujith Abraham, group VP of strategy and sales development, Asia Pacific at Oracle.
Abraham spoke with John Furrier and Jeff Frick, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, at Oracle OpenWorld 2015 in San Francisco. Abraham has observed “increasing levels of modernization” and “massive investment in infrastructure” in Asia. In India, a project called Digital India is bringing the Internet to rural areas. China is working on Internet Plus, which will have the Internet in all major cities. A central bank is also in the works.
The Asian market presents unique challenges due to sometimes unpredictable economies subject to events like military coups, stated Abraham.
“Oracle can handle it,” Abraham responded to questions about dealing with encryption in cases with sensitive information. Nevertheless, Abraham has seen that “a lot [of companies] are already there in the cloud.” Particularly, Australia is “full throttle to the cloud.” Since the rise of the cloud, Oracle’s “portfolio has grown immensely” as the “cloud democratizes entry.”
When asked about where to visit in Asia, Abraham recommended a two-month stay with stops in New Delhi, Bombay, Beijing, Shanghai and Sydney.
