Where is the enterprise IT cloud heading? | #oow15

It’s day two at Oracle OpenWorld, and after an exciting keynote with Larry Ellison, Oracle’s executive chairman and chief technology officer, on day one and keynote announcements this morning, the enterprise IT community is abuzz.
However, it’s helpful to step back and get an idea of how realistic the claims are and where the trends are going, and that’s exactly what John Furrier and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, discovered from Tim Jennings, chief research officer at Ovum IT.
Do the numbers work?
Furrier asked Jennings if Oracle’s story of the numbers work out. In short, Jennings said, “Yes.” While Ovum IT forecasts only five years in advance, Jennings noted that the firms both had similar projections of where the growth in the enterprise IT cloud was going.
He agreed with Oracle in saying that a generational shift was taking place currently, and Oracle is well poised to make itself one of the top providers. The trend has been reinforced by his conversations with other firms’ CIOs, CDOs and other related officials.
Shadow IT & simplicity
Ovum IT thinks its clear Oracle has a motive to build more and more simplicity, which Jennings said was all about “reducing the headcount” at firms. This move from IT in the office to IT handled by Oracle, Amazon Web Services, Inc. and others helps firms realizes gains in as little as three months, and projects that would otherwise be ignored are given a chance.
As with much of the theme at Oracle’s event, integration was especially touted. Jennings concurred that integration with mobile, the Internet of Things and analytics would be key going forward.
