At Oracle OpenWorld 2015, keynote speakers predicted a future with two clouds. Jim McHugh, Cisco System, Inc.’s UCS VP of product and solutions marketing, told Stu Miniman, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that the industry would support more than two.
“I believe there will be many different clouds,” he said. “As we start maturing, there are going to be specialized clouds that will perform better than generic clouds.”
While Amazon Web Services, Inc., Microsoft and others focus on cloud platforms, Cisco focuses on developing cloud services. McHugh said that Cisco will run some of these services, while partners will run others.
The company also recognizes the need to help companies reduce software and personnel costs while its increases capacity. “People want quality and want to keep adding more compute capacity when they need it,” McHugh said.
