Oracle has also shifted gear with batch of products that focus on mobile development, developers and vertical industries. Extending its focus from database as a service to entire industries, Oracle is aimed at developers and letting firms make their database estate more efficient, saving cost, and run applications faster. The six new cloud services, including Oracle Big Data Cloud, which lets businesses use Hadoop to analyze data on Oracle infrastructure, and Oracle Mobile Cloud to develop enterprise mobile apps to running on the cloud are some new initiatives the database firm has taken to make Oracle as the biggest cloud firm around. Java is the top developer tool Oracle has announced development plans for the future of Java, the database company continues to represent the programming language world number one in every possible area of ​​development. Specifically, the company is promoting Java Standard Edition (SE) 8 and the development of version 9 of the platform. During the Openworld conference, Oracle has among other things introduced a new Java Development Kit (JDK) (now arrived at version 20), and a preliminary version of the Jigsaw project, a modular system to reduce weight and encourage the adoption of Java “universal” Virtual Machine. The company also introduced Java ME Embedded 8.1, a package specifically designed to expand the availability of Java on ARM platform with new features for communication and networking, and additional security measures. With the introduction of Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1, Oracle is further enabling developers to develop highly functional, reliable, portable and secure solutions for all kinds of devices. As a result, organizations can reduce costs, improve product quality and speed time to market through a modern Java development platform that extends from the device to the data center. Mobile first Oracle unveiled Oracle Alta User Interface, a sleek design system that takes aim at providing compelling services for all the different devices that have infiltrated the corporate network. The company says that the service is aimed at empowering enterprise developers to embrace a more modern approach to visual design. The Mobile Application Accelerator significantly reduces the complexity of mobile application development, giving business users the ability to quickly develop their own mobile applications and also enabling rapid development and deployment of mobile solutions. Oracle says developers can use Oracle Mobile Application Framework to further enhance mobile applications created with Mobile Application Accelerator. This capability provides continuity of development tools and framework between power users and developers and increases collaboration. Open source play Oracle is not the first company many think of when they think of open source, but the company is reaching out to the OSS community through projects and opportunities. One opportunity, via OpenStack, shows the promise of being the platform for the public cloud and its connection to the open source movement represents a key component of the vendor’s long-term product strategy. Dave Seglau, Director, community databases, said that NoSQL is definitely a component of Big Data and is part of the strategy of storing and managing very fast but simple operations over simple data. Oracle is going to invest heavily on NoSQL across multiple systems that the company introduced in July. The software shares many capabilities with Teradata Corp.’s QueryGrid, enabling developers to send the same requests to their relational database, Hadoop and NoSQL deployments without having to rewrite the statement in the native syntax of each environment.
