How IT can be more than an ‘order-taker’ | #datacenter
by Betsy Amy-Vogt | Jun 23, 2015
Speaking to theCUBE at the Oracle Cloud Launch at Oracle HQ in Redwood Shores, CA, Michael Kuban, director of Enterprise Solutions for global supplement manufacturer Pharmavite, LLC, discusses how Pharmavite is re-inventing its business processes using Oracle solutions.
“We’re starting at the ground up, but the vision is to fully automate and integrate work activities across the organization, which can then drive KPIs and service metrics so that we can actually evaluate how the processes are working,” he explained.
Doing business anywhere
Kuban believes an existing lack of integration between IT and traditional business processes has led to IT being seen as solely an “order taker” as opposed to a business enabler.
“You can have lots of data, but if it’s not driving any value, if you’re not getting the information out of it, if you’re not getting the analytics out of it, it’s just data,” he said. “We want to see the usage of process and data across the organization.”
Pharmavite is taking a hybrid approach, integrating on-premises and Cloud-based services with the aim of consolidating data and minimizing time spent in KTLO. Kuban sees his role as enabling technology for accessibility anywhere, anytime.
“It’s the idea of the business being able to do their job whenever they need to, wherever they are, on whatever device,” he said. “The only way to do that is to get transparent over the architecture and provide that information.”
