Mirantis, Inc. touts itself as the key to unlocking OpenStack, and it is a big part of the OpenStack community contribution strategy. So what are the issues facing enterprises, and how will this initiative help?
Alex Freedland, cofounder and president of Mirantis, spoke with John Furrier and Jeff Frick on theCUBE, at OpenStack Silicon Valley 2015. Freedland discussed his company’s strategic alignment with OpenStack and the relationships that will change enterprise Cloud computing.
A Cloud journey
Currently the foundation is working with Platinum, Gold and Corporate sponsors to fund their mission of protecting, empowering and promoting the OpenStack community and software. “This is the important layer of unlocking the infrastructure and making it available to consumers,” said Freedland in response to the news that Intel is now a platinum member of OpenStack.
According to Freedland, Forrester Research, Inc. also reports that OpenStack is now the fifth platform ushering more users to the Cloud with ease. “It provides scale and openness for Cloud journeys,” he said.
Enterprise size
OpenStack is important for viability and providing an environment where companies can grow and easily consume. Freedland said that companies of all sizes need open source. “Large enterprises now see open source as the place to be, and for young startups OpenStack is critical to their success,” he stated.
Mirantis views the Silicon Valley event as a way to bring a full solution to customers and understand what type of partnerships are necessary to make it happen.
