How Rackspace uses OpenStack to stimulate innovation | #OpenStackSV
by Timothy Walden | Aug 10, 2016
Although OpenStack can help enterprises in a multitude of ways, there are some companies who are still wary of the migration. Is it functional? What sort of cloud do we use? These are the questions to which businesses need answers. Luckily, Rackspace, Inc., a company that’s worked with OpenStack since its genesis, is here to help.
Ken Hui, senior technical marketing manager at Rackspace, Inc., and Kenny Johnson, senior product manager at Rackspace, talked with Lisa Martin (@Luccazara), host of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during OpenStack Days: Silicon Valley 2016 about Rackspace and its partnership with OpenStack.
A whole new world
Rackspace has worked with OpenStack since 2010 and has since fostered a community of 600 companies, said Johnson. The initiative has created an alternative to Amazon, and there is a concerted effort to foster an effective community along with it.
As customer experience and relationships gain more spotlight, it becomes increasingly necessary to create a reliable network of support. Johnson refers to Rackspace’s overwhelming investment in support as “fanatical” support. The digital side of a company must be more forward facing than it’s ever been, and it requires a much more extensive and hands-on approach, he added.
One size fits all
Whether an enterprise is looking into moving to a public loud or keeping things private Rackspace can help. No matter the extent of innovation a company is looking to attain, they can use OpenStack and the support of Rackspace to do so, according to Hui. The infrastructure can be set up in such a way that everything is automated, even on a hybrid cloud platform.
We live in a multi-cloud world, said Hui, and, “We want to support all the clouds.”
Stacking up
When it comes to audience, Rackspace helps everyone from self-starting gaming companies to Fortune 100 Banks, said Johnson. Their main concern is making sure as many people and enterprises as possible adopt the OpenStack infrastructure and that it’s successfully incorporated into their organizations.
One value add that customers are looking for right now is agility, said Hui. OpenStack provides that agility across various platforms, and with a fanatical support enterprises are well prepared for success.
The collaborative environment fostered by Rackspace continues to encourage innovation, and its relationship with OpenStack will only grow stronger. In the future, customers will see a “stronger commitment to a wider adoption of OpenStack” and a community dedicated to resilient infrastructures.
