Client-server to cloud is an evolution, not a revolution, says InterVision cofounder | #NXTWORK
by R. Danes | Nov 3, 2015
The client-server era is coming to an end, acknowledges Jason Gress, president and cofounder of InterVision Systems Technologies, Inc. However, the transition from traditional client-server to the cloud ecosystem will be gradual.
“Obviously the market is changing,” he told Stu Miniman and John Furrier, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Juniper Networks NXTWORK 2015. “And, it’s not just an overnight change. It’s more of an evolution versus a revolution.”
Hybrid solutions will form an important bridge to full conversion over the next few years, according to Gress. “Although maybe the client-server business is kind of diminishing, there’s a lot of opportunities to take advantage of hybrid cloud models in various different capacity requirements,” he said.
Customers want management tools for hybrid
Gress spoke of how InterVision’s partnership with Juniper Networks, Inc. has enabled it to offer customers solutions to meet the challenges of transitioning to cloud. “We’ve been a Juniper partner since 1999, almost since the inception of Juniper,” he said.
He stressed InterVision’s commitment to its customers’ needs as businesses with problems to solve. “We are just enabling them to solve those business needs through technology,” Gress said.
Currently, he said, the company is finding its customers to be very interested in tools for managing hybrid cloud models. “I think the opportunity, really, is to build hybrid clouds and management tools that allow you to manage your public cloud and also manage your private cloud and bring those together to create hybrid clouds,” he stated. “I think that’s truly where we see the direction of SDDC [Software-Defined Data Center] and what the customers are looking for.”
