IDC forecasts hyperconverged surge | #NEXTConf
by Heather Johnson | Jun 10, 2015
Matt Eastwood, senior VP of research firm IDC’s Enterprise Infrastructure and Datacenter Group, spoke with theCUBE about IDC’s latest forecasts for the hyperconverged systems market. The company’s 2014 Worldwide Hyperconverged Systems Vendor Assessment ranked Nutanix, Inc. a leader over SimpliVity Corp.
Software-defined infrastructures to put pressure on “integrated” market
Nutanix generated 52 percent of all global hyperconverged revenue during the first half of 2014, the report stated. “We’ve forecasted the hyperconverged market to grow dramatically, from 800 million this year to a billion and a half next year,” Eastwood said.
“Infrastructures that are increasingly software defined are going to put a lot of architectural pressure on a market that has been more about integration.”
theCUBE cohost Stu Miniman argued that in the next five years two-thirds of products customers own will be converged.
Eastwood agrees, noting, “We still see a massive difference between enterprise and the hyperscalers. The focus on differentiation will move into applications.”
