Nutanix: The second coming of infrastructure | #NEXTConf
by Betsy Amy-Vogt | Jun 18, 2015
“I think it’s absolutely revolutionary in the market, I think they are challenging a lot of the norms and I think they’re bringing an approach to the industry that is really transformational,” said Dan Gorman, an enterprise infrastructure architect. Gorman discussed the impact of Nutanix to enterprise infrastructure in a recent interview with theCUBE at Nutanix .NEXT 2015.
Gorman continued, “Nutanix says, ‘Hey, I don’t care what ecosystem you’re in; we’re bringing that web scale; you can live within whatever eco-system you like.’ We want to build a Cloud that is scalable, that is elastic, that will ebb and flow as our business needs change, and Nutanix has been a perfect partner for that.”
Virtualization can be scary!
According to Gorman, the biggest challenge for enterprise architects is controlling expenses by accurately anticipating growth. Nutanix solves this by allowing expansion in smaller “bite-sized” chunks, eliminating the need for large up-front expenditure. Although he believes that virtualization is the ideal approach for bringing enterprise IT up to date, he sees that “there is always animosity for changing from something that is known to something that is unknown and relatively new.”
Looking seven years ahead, Gorman prophesies that web-scale hyperconvergent solutions such as Nutanix will be commonplace: “I think you’re going to see a huge shift where, sort of the SME’s fade off into the distance. You’re going to have a generic platform that’s more focused on services and service availability than infrastructure,” he said. “Hardware is going to come in and out, but at the end of the day, IT is going to be more worried about service delivery. And you’re starting to see some of that today with the public Cloud, email offerings and what not.”
