Brazil gets up to speed on Big Data | #MITCDOIQ
by Heather Johnson | Jul 23, 2015
Assesso, a technology company with more than 30 years of experience in Brazil, leads the market with its data quality software. QIBRAS, Information Quality Brazil, of which Assesso is a member, aims to implement strategies, methodologies and techniques of quality information and data in professional and academic activities.
During MITCDOIQ Symposium 2015, theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s Media team, spoke to Assesso President/CEO Flavio Pires and Project Director Mario Servi. The duo admitted that the Brazilian market faces the same challenges as the U.S. tech industry, but they also admitted it lacked the maturity and awareness when it comes to data management.
Data ownership and IT challenges in Brazil
“We face the same problems around data ownership and IT,” said Servi. “But people are more readily recognizing the importance of managing data outside of the IT sphere.”
Pires explained that QIBRAS plans to take a “big association” approach to developing awareness in the market to “spread the culture among the association.”
Servi said that QIBRAS plans to “bring as many companies together as we can to discuss data management.” To date, the organization has about 55 Brazilian companies involved.
QIBRAS also plans to focus on ROI, as some companies in the area have ineffective calculation methods.
