Data is flowing all around us, streaming in and out of various devices. But where does all that invisible data go? The answer is servers, and Lenovo Group Ltd. is leading the charge at making them more effective and efficient.
Kamran Amini, GM of the Server Business Unit at Lenovo, talked with John Walls and Stu Miniman (@stu), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Lenovo Tech World 2016 event about Lenovo’s server business.
Serve it up
Lenovo’s Server Business Unit creates a leading platform for mission-critical applications. It is creating faster, more efficient servers to host the vast amounts of data that are coming in. It’s even possible to deploy functioning virtual environments that help users solve for problems and create innovative solutions faster than before, Amini stated.
When it comes to handling applications and data analysis, customers are looking for a “single point of management” and Lenovo provides that, Amini added.
Getting up to speed
One of the bigger problems Lenovo is solving is consolidation of old information. Where previously there were 12 servers, now only one is necessary. Old information that was going unused can be added and processed along with new information concurrently. Lenovo is working to reduce the footprint and power consumption of data centers and its servers do just that.
You must work with what you have and “be smart wth your existing infrastructure” to get results, according to Amini.
Users are constantly changing, and so are their needs. In order to be on the leading edge of technology, you have to listen to what the customer wants, and that includes enterprises, he said. Data is flowing around us at an unbelievable rate, and that means there has to be somewhere for it to go.
“Servers are the foundation of everything,” and they must be just as as advanced as the coding, Amini concluded.
