Behind the wall: Keeping up with cyber threat protection | #NXTWORK
by Timothy Walden | Oct 4, 2016
Along with the progression of technology comes the progression of cyber security threats. Cyber security has become the most talked about issue in the industry, and companies are looking for the right solution to combat this threat. FireEye Inc. is a company that provides premium cyber threat protection and helps companies prepare for the worst, according to Kevin Mandia, CEO at FireEye, Inc.
Mandia talked with John Furrier (@furrier) and Stu Miniman (@stu), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Juniper NXTWORK event about FireEye and its cyber threat protection.
Handling the market
At the moment, the cyber security industry is chaotic from a business perspective, according to Mandia. There’s a huge volume of security vendors in the market and an even higher number of possible threats. FireEye stands out as a provider of cyber security protection and has several industry-leading clients, he explained.
Mandia pointed out that cyber security is a topline issue and there is no longer a question of if a company will be hacked, but when.
Focus on the big issues
One of the primary ways hackers are successful is by “exploiting human trust,” said Mandia. They use malware and spearfishing techniques to gain access to company internal systems. FireEye helps companies strengthen their perimeter security and internal system security as well.
Cyber security is a complex issue and as such, has no single expert on the issue. There are millions of issues that can arise in a number ways. FireEye scales the volume of expertise and use cases to “minimize the noise,” said Mandia. It uses tools, such as virtualization and analytics, to create stronger and more secure systems.
Look ahead
Along with on-premise cyber security, FireEye also helps companies in transition to the cloud. It helps provide “secure identity management and audit trails,” said Mandia. FireEye is looking at how hackers are breaking in to better keep them out.

FireEye can help companies modernizing their infrastructures and recasting their networks. The company finds the most effective cyber security measures and minimizes damage, according to Mandia.
