Lauren Flaherty, Exec VP & Chief Marketing Officer - Juniper Mobile Security Suite Launch - theCUBE
John Furrier sat down with Lauren Flaherty Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Juniper Networks to talk about the new mobile security software suite launch in SF on October 26, 2010 In an age where mobile devices are heavily used for both business and play, security has become a concerning factor. Juniper Networks has taken the step to provide a more safe way to conduct mobile activity with their latest software, the Junos® Pulse Mobile Security Suite. Lauren Flaherty, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Juniper Networks, explains to Silicon Angle's John Furrier how the innovative software will benefit both enterprises and consumers. Flaherty enlightens us with the fact that at least 98% of mobile devices are shipped with absolutely no security agents attached to them. Juniper Networks has an understanding of what kind of protection the people need. They know what the enterprises need within the mobile workforce. The software announcement is a reaction to this need of mobile protection. With the new mobile security suite, Flaherty says that Juniper is "delivering on the promise which is a secure mobile network". Aside from securing the mobile activity of businesses, the security software will also be extended to service providers so that they can distribute the security software to the consumer. Juniper is special in that their software comes with an openness, in contrast to software like Oracle which is more closed. This means that the security suite can cater to multiple OS platforms and a broad range of devices, IE: Blackberry, iPhone, etc., unlike the competition who are more device centric. "Mobility has to be open," exclaims Flaherty. The Pulse software also features different kinds of functional capabilities that one may want for security, and it has been designed for simple customer use. Furrier asked Flaherty to explain Juniper's future enablement strategy. She focused on three different personas: the office worker, the mom/parent, and the road warrior. So what's the benefit for these real-world consumers? It helps these folks identify with the infrastructure capability, which the average consumer usually does not care about. They've made the application easier to use. In the case of the mom/parent; it helps them to protect and defend when they enable their children with the use of mobile devices. The security suite helps people see what technology capability can bring to service providers. It provides for the consumer, and it helps manage enterprise services through cloud computing. This increases monetization and top line revenue growth. Security plays a huge role in the consumerization of IT and the consumerization of technology. In today's world, Furrier expresses how mobility represents someone's life -- texts, photos, check-ins, Facebook status, etc. It is your personal data vault. The Pulse Mobile Security Suite is business professional as well as a service to consumers. Juniper makes sure all information is safe. Flaherty explains that they are a 14-year-old company and have been able to develop software that is "open environment, highly integrated, and platform oriented". It is what makes them different. She adds, "there is this fabulous collision going on. The IT world and the commerce world are 'munching' together in ways where we're just starting to see the advent of what's possible."
