How Infor’s Dynamic Science Labs help businesses sort out their data | #Inforum16
by Timothy Walden | Jul 11, 2016
With so much data floating around, it can be hard to determine what specific data will be useful with today’s problems. Infor, Inc. helps businesses sift through vast stores of data to determine what they need.
Leigh Martin, senior director of Science Management at Infor’s Dynamic Science Labs, talked with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Inforum 2016 about Infor and data management.
All that information
The Infor Dynamic Science Labs (DSL) are comprised of a team of data scientists that come from a range of backgrounds and industries. These scientists, along with Infor customers, have access to an incredible amount of data. The scientists of the DSL work with its customers to “identify a particular problem and gain access to the data that will help them assess it,” said Martin.
Data science is a niche field that works with an overwhelming amount of information. As that information grows, so too does the demand for data scientists.
High demand, high quality
Infor DSL wants to harness the vast amounts of information it has. It takes time to determine where issues exist and what the areas of improvement are. Once those problems have been determined, Infor data scientists can sort through the data to turn a possible solution into a reality.
Infor seeks to “bring our customers to the arena of advanced math and science,” said Martin. It wants to give its customers the knowledge and power to effortlessly access the appropriate data at the appropriate time.
Coming together
It can be difficult to manage so many data streams, but Infor’s data scientists spend a lot of time getting to know the customer and determining the types of data each will find most useful. If a customer has a suite of Infor products, they can look at and access data across all those products.
Infor is excited about data science, as well as other industries. “There’s a lot of science going on outside just our team,” said Martin. All that science can only lead to bigger and better solutions.
