The talk began with a defining quote from Chong: “We love disruption.” Informatica, as a company, is built around managing data. The current cycle of innovation has data becoming more important every day. This data must be managed, and Informatica intends to do so with what they call an Intelligent Data Platform. This concept allows companies to get at data wherever it lives, and then use metadata to give that data context. Watching the Cloud in real time Data becomes more useful when it can be put to work in real time. Chong related that if a company wants to use their data in real time, it must be processed in a way to predict customer intentions. Only by walking one step ahead of the customer can a company truly operate in real time. The Intelligent Data Platform pulls insights from known data in order to make those predictions. It does this using a consistent way of tracking metadata and applying the same rules to data no matter what its source. The horizon of data management The interview turned to the subject of what is next on the horizon for Informatica. Chong touched on a number of plans for the future. These included heavy investment into data-related technologies, innovations regarding data as a service and Cloud-based concepts. “All those are things that we actively discuss and pursue,” he said. @theCUBE #INFA15
