Why Informatica became the ‘Switzerland of data’
Data generation is on the rise, and has been for some time. With that, comes the pressing need for a way to contain that data, no matter the platform. Trying to homogenize this data and get it usable in one place for analytics or decision making is an incredible task. One that plays right to Informatica LLC’s strength, according to Informatica executive chairman Bruce Chizen (pictured).
Companies are moving to use multiple cloud infrastructures, which is making it hard to produce one common view of data, he explained. So, Informatica continues to work on multiple platforms.
“[Informatica] announced their relationship with … [Microsoft] Azure, with Informatica’s information platform as a service running natively on Azure, in addition to what already exists with Amazon Web Services,” Chizen said.
The next goal for Informatica is to add artificial intelligence capability to the metadata collected for its customers in order to increase the speed of this data collection and use.
Chizen spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the Informatica World event in Las Vegas. They discussed the role of Informatica in data analyzation and containment. (* Disclosure below.)
An unbiased solution to data containment
Since customers have expressed interest in a non-biased solution, Informatica has taken on the challenge. It has become the ‘Switzerland of data,’ at the same time focusing on growth within the company. In other words, Informatica remains neutral to all providers so customers don’t feel locked in by any one vendor or provider, according to Chizen.
“Informatica is the only scaled provider in the data business that has a solution that works across all environments, all vendors, all providers, hybrid, on-premises, cloud, multiple infrastructure providers,” Chizen concluded.
