Informatica finds new markets thanks to business cloud adoption
Enterprise businesses are powerful industry forces, but they can have a problem seeing the forest for the trees. Small companies, even mid-tier ones, slip under the radar, no matter what kind of opportunities those businesses represent. The issue is one of access and information. The cloud, however, is changing all that, according to Greg Hanson (pictured), vice president of EMEA business operations at Informatica LLC.
“The great thing about cloud infrastructure … is we can see what our customers are doing with our products. We can understand the use cases,” Hanson said.
Hanson was speaking with John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile live-streaming studio, during the Informatica World conference in San Francisco, California. (* Disclosure below.)
A fragmented market for cloud adoption
In international terms, the cloud landscape is rather fragmented. Different countries have their own regulations, requirements and physical infrastructures that create a patchwork for cloud providers. In some places, the cloud is not yet a mature platform. However, in the majority of regions, cloud is a huge topic for every business customer.
“Every enterprise customer I talked to, it’s now not if they’re going to adopt the cloud, but when,” Hanson said.
Informatica is moving to handle the cloud in the enterprise space, but there’s also an opportunity for them to reach into other market sectors as well. Mid-market businesses are discovering the cloud, and partners are opening doors for Informatica to serve customers they couldn’t before. These mid-market companies are a force for driving cloud adoption, Hanson stated.
There’s also a change in how Informatica gets to know its customers. Before the cloud, they had to call up, knock on doors, meet people in person to learn about customer needs and use cases. Now, they can track data through the cloud to see how their products are really being used. This becomes a sort of crowd-sourcing that Informatica can use to develop new solutions across the market, Hanson explained.
“So, really a phenomenal change over the last two years, which has been brought on by that ramp of cloud adoption that we’ve seen globally,” he concluded.
