Watson Analytics rounds out data services by Heather Johnson | May 27, 2015 #IBM #IBMVision #theCUBE #IBMWatson #SiliconANGLE  IBM’s data powerhouse, Watson, offers two sides to the same coin. Watson Group focuses on cognitive, unstructured data, while Watson Analytics focuses on numerical data. In some aspects, the two sides come together. “Watson Analytics is the first example of an IBM solution within another division that consumes a large number of Watson Group’s cognitive services,” Marc Altshuller, VP Watson Analytics told theCUBE during IBM Vision. “We put them in Watson Analytics so that you can interact with it in natural language. They are a strong partner.” An entrepreneurial spirit Altshuller, a cofounder of Varicent Software and holder of several roles for Prophix Software, brings an entrepreneurial spirit to IBM management. “We have a partner ecosystem to lean on,” he said. “They can bring their solutions to market. We have to be willing to transform ourselves and look at these technologies and focus on fewer things better. I take a VC approach. Could I take this idea to a VC, and would they fund it?” Looking forward, Altshuller said that customers should expect to see more analytics capabilities from Watson. In addition to cognitive and predictive discovery, Altshuller noted forecasting algorithms on the horizon, as well as scoring capabilities and tools for enterprise. “We will also offer a lot of integration with other IBM products,” he said. @theCUBE #IBMVision
