Danes | Feb 22, 2016 The technology industry is all ears these days for Big Data use-cases that give clues as to how the new data science will transform our lives. It sometimes seems we are sitting on this goldmine just waiting for the tools to extract its riches. Where are we going with all this? For Doug Balog, GM of IBM Power Systems, the answer to that question can be summed up in one word: Cognitive. To achieve the goal of really impressive cognitive computing, Balog told John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, power systems have to be accelerated for processing at the speed of thought. “Acceleration equals cognitive for me,” he said. Balog said that his Power Systems team has been cooperating with other systems at IBM they have not typically dealt with closely. The aim is to get data and power acceleration working in tandem to produce cognitive computing goals. “It’s all the places you would historically never see power — that’s where we go now,” he said. The race to cognitive computing Balog said that customers’ appetite for cognitive is growing all the time, and he is hearing them say directly, “I’ve got to embed cognitive in my business now.” He said that IBM is up to the challenge, and, “We’re continuing to pivot the position and the power from data to cognitive.” @theCUBE #IBMInterConnect
