Bluemix: The IBM ninjas | #IBMInterConnect

IBM’s Bluemix platform helps the enterprise bring all of its technology together and move it to the cloud. The busy team has been working directly with clients to harden their systems based on a curation of the customers experiences.
Moe Abdula, VP of cloud architecture and solutions at IBM, joined John Furrier, of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to talk about the accomplishments at Bluemix and how IBM is helping to write the playbook for other industry architects.
Hardening areas
Abdula explained there are two specific areas where the company has hardened systems. “The first area of hardening, cloud,” he said. “The cloud is in a hybrid setting and for us to really start nailing down applications and (enabling customers to) consume them the way they want, whether it is in a local dedicated or public fashion, a lot is based on grounding, and standards, and common technologies that really lend themselves to that environment.”
The second area of hardening according to Abdula is defining repeatable solutions. He noted that many clients have been doing “first of its kind” in the cloud. Now we are starting to understand the common patterns around mobile or data. We are aggressively going out there saying, ‘We think you should do it this way.’”
“Speed is the new currency. Speed of innovation, Speed by which you are reacting to these requirements.”
The playbook
Abdula sees a rebirth especially in a hybrid context infrastructure where customers are trying to marry assets with complicated technologies and capabilities together. He said that the architect is now a pivotal role in the enterprise.
Earlier this week IBM announced the launch of an Architecture Center, which is a single portal where clients can go to and start to understand from an architectural perspective how to put solutions together.
Where to start
“The first step for success that we observed is understanding how to take your existing assets and enable them into the cloud domain,” Abdula explained. “Integrate. API integration is a low-hanging fruit.” He also sees buffering a company’s systems of record as a way to begin building an edge to the cloud.
Abdula said that his team are black-belt ninjas, who are starting to understand and fine-tune the process of beginning to build architecture. They land, understand and handhold the team and later provide feedback captured through the process, making it available to the industry.
