IBM Bluemix’ main focus is determining how “to make developers successful by bringing their apps to Bluemix,” says Simon Kaegi, Live Sync Lead and DevOps Web IDE Architect, IBM Bluemix. In his live interview with theCUBE co-hosts John Furrier and Dave Vellante at IBM InterConnect 2015, Kaegi states that “if you look at all the cloud space, people are primarily using cloud as a deployment target for their applications. We want to make it easy for developers to build the apps directly into the cloud.” According to Kaegi, the developers moving into the cloud is an imminent event. “The big, big change in the next few years is that they [developers] are going to move all of their development from their local machine into the cloud” Kaegi said.
“Developers are a fickle bunch. I think this space has changed over the last few years. With the cloud and the web, what I found is that developers are now using a bunch of different tools. This is hard to do, so they are looking for ways to simplify their work flow, to automate what they are doing,” Kaegi said. “The table stakes are shifting very, very quickly. A lot of the cloud stuff is very new. One of the table stakes that’s coming along, the quality has to be there, the quality of your fabric has to be excellent.”
Asked what why customers should choose Bluemix, Kaegi said, “the way IBM works with Docker and cloud foundry, we work directly with them. We can go in and then get the changes that we want that make sense for our customers in that environment.”
