IBM's James Kobielus is in attendance at IBM's IOD, Information On Demand 2012 event,
and he joins Dave Vellante and Jeff Kelly inside theCube for an interview.
The 2012 event had a major focus on Big Data. Kobielus has is known as a Big Data Evangelist and has a great understanding of cloud based technologies. Of the important criteria and what he likes to refer to as "operational economies of scale" he has been quoted as saying,
James jokingly says that IBM keeps all of their employees, "busy as bees".
Without a career plan, James says that he just goes where his skill set is needed and can best evolve.
At some point, he was an industry analyst for 13 years straight, and was looking for a change. This is what brought him to IBM, after he was approached by them for a job as their Big Data Evangelist,, which he said took virtually no thought to accept.
Dave asks if IBM is number one in Big Data. Being an employee of IBM, he gives his knowledge of why his company is number one.
"If you look at what the core of what big data is, practically, enterprise data warehouses, massively parallel enterprise data warehouses like IBM."
