Paul Zikipouslos of IBM Software Group joins Wikibon.org's Dave Vellante and Jeff Kelly live inside theCUBE at Information On Demand 2013.
Paul tells the pair that he got his start as an author, writing books such as, DB2 Certification for Dummies, Understanding Big Data. He goes on to tell that he has been with IBM for about twenty years now.
As hot a term as Big Data is right now, Paul says that he hates the term. But, he understands it and loves what it does.
He says that, the biggest myth, is that Big Data, is Hadoop. But truly Hadoop is just a part of the Big Data Ecosystem, as an at rest engine.
After clearing that up he poses the question, what do we do with that?
How do I add big data to my warehouse?
And even though most companies can promise low cost at the outset, there are still a number of ways that data needs to be manipulated, and that ultimately drives cost up. Hadoop, he says, is great in the discovery phase. He very clearly states, that, in terms of their data management, most clients don't know, what they should already know.
