Top execs, business partners, customers make IBM Edge 2015 a success | #IBMEdge
by Heather Johnson | May 20, 2015
theCUBE cohosts Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman give their parting words as IBM Edge2015 comes to a close. The conference broadened from storage to discussions on z and Power Systems, IBM’s open source efforts, and much more.
Regarding advancements in Big Data, Vellante recalled the words of a Walmart enterprise technical expert Randy Frerking, who said, “We turn inventory into information.”
Staying ahead of the curve
Miniman noted that IBM’s focus on capacity and performance rather than dollars could keep them ahead of the curve. “IBM says they are Number One in terabytes, but not necessarily in revenue,” he said.
Vellante responded, “If you’re leading in volume, and you’re pricing profitably, that’s a good business model for IBM.”
Miniman compliments IBM on its efforts to tie businesses together. “It was very clear today how Power, z, storage, and the middleware all fit together,” he said. “IBM also has a great story on the analytics side.”
IBM’s diverse ecosystem partners
The cohosts also noted IBM’s diverse ecosystem partners, which include smaller companies, such as Catalogic Software and Permabit Technology Corp.. “IBM knows how to build ecosystems,” said Miniman. “I love the transformation on the open side. IBM has great credibility in open source.”
Look for IBM to have a big presence at other conferences this year.
