Deepak Advani, IBM Software Group, at IBM Edge 2013, with Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman
General Manager of Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure at IBM Deepak Advani came to talk on theCube with Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman at IBM Edge 2013 in Las Vegas.
When asked about cloud adoption, Advani noted that the pressure CIOs are under to do more with less is part of the move. By adopting a cloud solution, an enterprise is able to optimize their infrastructure and thereby free up resources to accelerate innovation.
Advani mentions that the best avenue to determining ones cloud solution should be hinged on the workloads they are using. Some workloads need to be in a private cloud due to data sensitivity and compliance matters, while others are more suited for a public cloud. The best model to support would be one of a hybrid nature. He states that the solution sought should be one that addresses the matters of private and public data, as well as the migration of that data between public and private clouds.
"It used to be an administrator would tweak the system and change some configurations...That institutional knowledge would be stored in their head," Advani says. "Now you have the ability to capture that [expertise]."
Advani felt that enterprises looking for efficiencies within should seek standardizing procedures and automating processes. To hear some of IBM's cloud solutions and offerings, check out Advani's entire interview below.
