Cheaper, faster, better: Is flash storage the trifecta? | #HPEDiscover
by R. Danes | Dec 7, 2015
As the disk-to-flash storage disruption rolls on, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) aims to position itself at the fore with flash storage built into its new “composable” infrastructure.
Manish Goel, SVP and GM of HP Storage, spoke to Dave Vellante and John Furrier, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during HPE Discover 2015 in London about the company’s evolving flash offerings. Since joining HPE, Goel said the biggest things that strike him is the customer footprint and the acquisitions the company has done. He sees flash storage as key to attracting new customers and advancing existing ones into higher tech systems and services.
Goel said that he believes with all technology, it’s down to cheaper, faster, better; with some technologies you hit one or two — with flash you hit all three, he explained.
Making customers’ lives simpler
“I fundamentally believe customers change only when one of two conditions exist,” Goel stated. “Either their existing choice is so painful that they have to relieve the pain or the alternative is so compelling that they’re willing to pay the cost of change.”
Everything HPE does, he said, is aimed at reducing complexity for customers, and that is what flash storage is all about. He also predicted flash will drive more condensed infrastructure into the future; storage is becoming memory; and memory will approach computing capacity more and more, resulting in a monolithic unit.
