Kickoff Day 1 - HPE Discover 2015 London - #HPEDiscover - #theCUBE
Are two HPs better than one? | #HPEDiscover
by Heather Johnson | Dec 1, 2015
On November 1, HP officially split into two separate companies: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) and HP, Inc.
“I had been saying presplit that HP had to shrink to grow, and that’s exactly what’s happening,” said Dave Vellante, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the kickoff to HPE Discover 2015 in London. “Now [CEO] Meg Whitman is focused on growing the top line.”
Vellante sees HP, Inc., which encompasses the trusted printers, ink and PCs, as the more stable of the two companies, while HPE is the “potential growth engine.”
HP has some work to do
But HP has some work to do to ensure continued growth. “Do they have the management to go to the next level?” Furrier asked.
“They will have to do some strategic M&A [mergers and acquisitions] to get back in the game,” Furrier said. “They are weak in collaboration but strong in the hybrid cloud and datacenter businesses. Security is also a potential opportunity for HP.”
