The Cube - HP New Support Reality - Intro, with John Furrier and Dave Vellante
SiliconANGLE's flagship telecast, The Cube was in Los Angeles on March 16 of 2012. Host and founder of the Cube, John Furrier and his co-host Dave Vellante of wikibon.org discuss Services and the massive waves being created by this new juggernaut of IT. Antonio Neri, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Technology Services Group of HP also join the Cube to discuss Project Voyager and the HP outlook on Services.
"Services is a one trillion dollar market, worldwide," states Wikibon.org's Dave Vellante. While the industry has changed, the service model has yet to adapt. Through tools such as cloud and virtualization, Services are adapting to the trends in order to meet new customer realities. Initially there has been little talk about the transformation occurring around services. But, it has been a focus of the Cube since coverage began in 2010. Recognizing the potential of this disruption, ServicesAngle.com was formed, now under the leadership of Alex Williams and with additional support from Intel.
The Cube's coverage of HP in Los Angeles was sparked by the announcement of what was called by HP "the pathway to the cloud." HP unveiled a new transformed portfolio around services that affects the new generation of computing and storage. The Cube has been covering HP since Discover and "HP has not strayed off course," Furrier stated with confidence. Even though they are bringing in a completely new architecture, the fundamentals remain the same. The focus remains on bringing customers benefits, such as cheaper costs, more computing power and performance, with the same HP reliability.
Dave Vellante was eager to discuss the changes occurring in the Service industry. "How are Services transforming to meet these new customer environments...? How is Services changing to meet those changing needs?" HP promises automated service management that is pro-active as opposed to re-active. HP and other Service professionals promise a more converged, environment driven model instead of a more device centric one. Vellante believes that companies need to meet this brand promise to remain competitive in the still evolving market.
Moving on to the Project Voyager announcement, also dubbed Gen 8, the Cube ran a brief clip featuring Antonio Neri, Senior VP and GM of HP's the Technology Services Group. With John Furrier leading the discussion, Neri spoke about HP's relationship with its customers and the upheaval caused by the evolution of Services.
Because of real time feedback from many customers, Neri's Technology Services Group is taking the opportunity to really redefine the customer service experience as a part of the Project Voyager
launch. By communicating with thousands of costumers on a daily basis Neri and his group can find out what the customers like, don't like and most importantly, what they need from the service going forward. "We're taking advantage of all the innovation that has been built into the product to really provide a leading customer experience...Innovation is not just about the product itself, it's about the experience," says Neri.
Project voyager attempts to take innovation at the core to solve true customer issues. Neri states a common request from customers is further automation of the service experience. Customers want to omit manual steps in attempt to reduce the occurrence of daily human error. The innovation and intelligence infused into the product will drive what Neri calls, "A true differentiated experience" in an automated way that includes their service partners. Services is the core of Antonio Neri's group going forward because, as he puts it, "...at the end of the day, Services keep technology running.
