HP, Aruba, and the growing wireless revolution | #HPDiscover #HPEDiscover by Nelson Williams | Jun 22, 2015 Wireless communication represents an amazing growth center in the technology industry. To help shed some light on this revolution, Dave Vellante of theCUBE joined Keerti Mellkote and Dominic Wilde at the HP Discover convention. Melkote is the founder and CTO of Aruba Networks, while Wilde is the VP of Product Management and Marketing at HP. The discussion opened with a look at the convention itself and how many people were attending. “Just being here, looking at the number of attendees, it’s fantastic,” Melkote said, comparing the vast crowd to the smaller events he used to attend. The conversation then turned to the relationship between Aruba, a wireless networking company, and HP. Scaling up in the business world HP recently acquired Aruba as part of a plan to enhance its networking portfolio. Wilde noted that Aruba brings true mobility-first solutions to the table. This provides last-mile connectivity for HP’s Cloud and datacenter projects. “We made the observation a decade ago that the world, if it could go wireless, would go wireless, and stay mobile,” said Melkote. At the time, workers were tied to the computers on their desks. Wireless networking helped free them to work in a mobile environment. However, Aruba needed a partner who could help them scale up to match the size of the market. HP provided that power. Generation mobile Melkote explained that the growing trend involved more than just people going wireless; products and services were also connecting in what’s being called the “Internet of Things.” In the near future, just about everything will use wireless communication. Companies who see this trend have been shifting their infrastructure away from wires to wireless products. Wilde pointed out that the challenge of working with the Internet of Things lies in dealing with the sheer volume of data. How do you sort through that volume and make it useful?
