“Small developers can disrupt the industry [but] at this point, it’s disrupt or be disrupted,” Jason Newton, senior director of Marketing at Hewlett-Packard Co., noted concerning the new breed of applications and data in today’s market. Newton spoke to theCUBE during HP Discover 2015.
HP Discover 2015 offered the public their first glimpse at the increasing customer-focus-driven products from HP.
Leveling the playing field
“Let’s face it: Hybrid is going to be hard,” Newton, stated, referencing the transition from traditional software platforms to services hosted in public Clouds. However, Newton remained optimistic about the prospect of accelerating what Meg Whitman, HP CEO, calls the “idea economy,” which has leveled the playing field for the industry.
HP is approaching this transition by focusing on the demands of its customers to develop a better product in real time. Newton commented on the customer legacy on which HP is building a “new breed of data applications.” In that process, the “execution of the idea economy” turns developers’ ideas into outcome services. Time relative to value is the number one priority in this process for HP.
Living in an experience-driven world
Newton also delivered a few teasers for the keynote address for HP Discover 2015 to be delivered by Meg Whitman. Most importantly, the company’s “four areas of transformation” are hybrid infrastructure (mobile applications, web-integration solutions), digital enterprise (proactive approaches to threats, including hackers), empowering data-driven organization (such as Hadoop and other Big Data services), and enabling digital workplace productivity. Of the four areas, Newton remarked that the last area was the most important as we are living in an increasingly “experience-driven world.”
Newton related that HP is “getting back to the roots of who we are and where we stand in the marketplace” by integrating the four transformation areas into “one full package” available from one provider. HP will be building on its “legacy” and “culture” in the coming year to create a “fresh start.” In a later interview following the keynote, Newton called HP a “transformation partner to the customer” and a “disruptor in the industry.”
