Dave Donatelli , EVP & GM, Enterprise Group, HP, discussed the new technologies released by the company, storage trends and general IT challenges with theCube co-host John Furrier and Jeff Frick, live at the HP Discover conference.
"We're making tremendous progress," Donatelli said, mentioning the company beat Wall Street expectation in the last quarter. "We've been introducing new and exciting technologies across our business. We're excited about the technologies we have both in the current world," and in helping customers get to the new world.
Going the open road
Commenting on the company's positioning in relation to open software and their mult-vendor approach, Donatelli said "open multi-vendor runs across our entire product set. We've made some more announcements in the storage space and software defined storage, in both direct storage product and support" services, all support multiple platforms and operating systems.
When it comes to data management, Donatelli said the big challenges in the enterprise are about seamless movement of data, and the performance of Big Data, as well as getting the architecture they can deploy to meet these challenges. "We've launched a flash array that helps companies deal with the influx of data that we have seen," and HP is addressing the issue at a lower cost, also reducing the amount of stored data.
There is a lot of startup activity in full flash arrays, he explained. "HP is already working on next generation technologies" which are going to completely change the storage stack.
In the new world, storage, network stacks, everything is merging, silos won't work, Donatelli explained. "Cloud based storage is where you see a lot of software defined storage."
Moving forward, lowering costs
Asked about customer feedback on business needs, Donatelli said "it's actually very straightforward." Companies want to be agile, be able respond fast, they want to simplify, they face IT cost reduction challenges. "The move to new style of IT is happening at an accelerated rate. People are moving faster." There is a lot of focus on service in IT -- SaaS happens a lot more, as well as moving into new architectures.
"We are seeing a flash revolution," he added, and the the prices of flash will keep going down. "If you look at all these new technologies, they are enabling the new generation where data, mobility, analytics, storage are key, and they help driving down cost.
"We're obviously working really hard to bring you great products and great services. Our big goal is to bring out new technologies.' Donatelli said, mentioning that more announcements will shortly follow. Another goal for HP is to "become a company that's much easier to do business with. We want to be as quick as we can be" on the response and provide the best service.
