BMC evolving with Hadoop to launch new data solutions | #HS16SJ

BMC Software, Inc. is an established company that is revitalizing itself.
“The new BMC is all about digital,” according to Robin Purohit, president of the Digital Service Management Business Unit at BMC Software. Big Data has now become essential, and BMC is working to not only add new services, but make services it has offered for a long time faster, such as optimizing data.
Purohit spoke to John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Hadoop Summit US in San Jose, CA.
Evolving with Hadoop
As part of these new initiatives, BMC is launching new solutions for data, especially with Hadoop.
“We think this year Hadoop has grown up,” said Purohit, adding that the company opened up a bunch of new API. It is also working on automation as a big element to its services. “We allow people to automate jobs across all platforms, including Hadoop, with a simple interface,” explained Purohit.
A sexy interface
And that simple interface is a key part of it as well. As technology has improved over time, customers look for what is not simply functional, but what is easy to use and looks sexy. BMC doesn’t want customers to simply use its app; it wants them to love using it.
In fact, one of the most exciting projects to Purhoit when he joined the ranks of BMC was MyIT, a mobile help service app that lets customers find answers about any issues they have with the cloud, and it’s as user-intuitive as if they were using Uber or Facebook, he said.
Securing operations
Looking ahead, Purhoit said the hottest conversation right now is about security. Customers have all this information from multiple sources floating around. While they often have a lot of technology that will warn them of a potential threat, they don’t have the ability to actually prevent the threat by securing operations. BMC is working to change that.
