Revealing its plans for Hadoop, MapR Technologies Inc. CMO Jack Norris detailed his company’s Big Data goals for its developer community and the numbers behind recent customer growth.
First up, MapR is incorporating MapR-DB into its community edition, Norris stated during a live interview with theCUBE during the Hadoop on the Hudson Party. The integration speaks to MapR’s high level of involvement and ongoing contribution towards the development of Hadoop for enterprise-grade applications, an ongoing challenge for the growing number of Hadoop service providers.
Norris also spoke about recent growth, with the “majority of customers reported less than a 12 month payback, 65 percent of 5x or greater return, and 40 percent of 10x or greater”. These figures include a subset of customers who have experience with other Hadoop distributions. “It’s a testament that when you get serious with Hadoop, you get serious with MapR,” explained Norris.
When asked where MapR is with Big Data and specifically Hadoop, Norris went with the interviewer’s sports analogy, saying, “early, early innings… but the bases are loaded and we are up”.
