JurisLink removes the ‘get out of jail free card’ | #EC16
by Marlene Den Bleyker | Mar 9, 2016
Attorneys waste a great deal of time on the road visiting their clients in various jails. According to Slade Trabucco, founder and CEO of JurisLink, Inc., as a defense attorney, he would sometimes have to drive four to five hours each way to visit a client in jail for a 10-minute meeting. So he developed an app that enables you to be in and out and get on with your day.
Trabucco joined host John Furrier of theCUBE, the SiliconANGLE media team at Enterprise Connect 2016 on the ground in Orlando FL to explain how his app works for client meetings and courtroom appearances.
Partnering for efficiency
JurisLink partnered with CaféX Communications, Inc., a software creator that enables companies to collaborate and engage digitally. “We chose Café X because of their Enterprise WebRTC because there no downloads for the attorney,” Trabucco said. He stated that large downloads are often a deterrent for the attorney to use this type of product.
Secure meetings without the drive
By delivering an experience that offers the attorney access to a secure, browser-based kiosk in the jail, they can schedule and meet with clients without all the driving. The product can be used from any device — iPad, iPhone, Android devices — using Google Chrome, and there is even an app for iPhone users to schedule and join meetings.
While in jail, the inmate sits in the kiosk and all video is encrypted. They can see their attorney through a high-def, encrypted and seamless connection and the attorney can see the inmate.
The digital courtroom
There is also a courtroom solution with an e-signature interface. This allows the attorney or inmate to fill out a form or document during a live conference. This experience occurs in a physical courtroom where there are four cameras for the prosecutor, defense attorney, the clerk and the judge. As the inmate sits in the kiosk in the jail, he is displayed on a 60-inch flat screen.
“This is generally used for first appearances or pleas, so they don’t have to transport the inmate,” Trabucco said. This is a cost-efficient process that benefits everyone because there is no extra manpower and use of vehicles, which saves time and energy.
