Fox Sports Australia brings round-the-clock coverage with VCE Vblock, EMC Isilon | #emcworld
by Heather Johnson | May 12, 2015
Fox Sports Australia, the leading subscription sports provider in Australia, covers 25 Tier 1 sports live, 23 hours a day. The suite of Fox Sports channels include one-third traditional broadcast and two-thirds new media; therefore, the company uses a lot of IP and many different technologies to get the job done.
‘The role of technology is about delivery and speed’
“We’re a content company,” Fox Sports Australia CTO Michael Tomkins told theCUBE during EMC World 2015. “We need to get the passion of the sport to the person at home. The role of technology is about delivery and speed — how fast can I get that clip to happen with a bit of insight? And I want to hit any device; hence, the new media flavor.”
Fox Sports Australia keeps its data on premises. Its data center includes 130 racks, two of which represent VCE Vblock with EMC Isilon, according to Tomkins. Vblock runs the complete corporate systems and the orchestration systems.
“We also burst out to the Cloud and to AWS,” he said. “It’s our home-run orchestration layer that sets us apart.”
