Desai is the president of EMC’s Emerging Technology Division. The discussion opened up with an overview of what Desai and his group does at EMC. He mentioned that the team’s major goals were to provide an infrastructure that scales and creates stateless applications for Clouds. Recently, they’ve developed an open source version of the ViPR controller called Project Copperhead. Supporting the community Desai then took a moment to speak about the DevOps event EMC hosted. The event was a sold-out success. The idea behind the event was to bring together the community around EMC and to help it share its ideas. One of EMC’s future goals is to support that community and earn support from them as well. Project Copperhead represents another example of supporting the community. It has the same features and functionality as ViPR but will soon be available for anyone to download. New technology, new possibilities The talk then turned toward ScaleIO and DSSD. Desai answered the question of where ScaleIO fits in the marketplace by pointing out that it supports many architecture options and that it scales linearly across a huge number of nodes. This gives companies great flexibility to grow with ScaleIO. @theCUBE #EMCWORLD
